Daniel Elbert Clopton of MissouriDaniel Elbert Clopton was the son of William Pitt Clopton and Catherine Elizabeth Campbell Clopton. A direct descendant of the first William Clopton, Gentleman, and his wife, Ann (Booth) Dennett Clopton, Daniel was born in 1853. He married Mary E. Brown. Both the Clopton and Brown families migrated from Tennessee to Missouri. According to Missouri, Mother of the West, while hunting at the age of 15, he was wounded by a pistol shot and spent much of his life an invalid. He tried his hand at farming, but his poor health forced him to abandon this enterprise and move with his family to Dadeville, where he clerked in a store until his death at age 36 in 1889. Mary died August, 1926.
They had five children: Ivan Clopton, Elsie Clopton Means, William Thomas Clopton, Ruie Clopton, and Lova Clopton Crane.
